Job Description:
Responsible for all aspects of cultivating and harvesting field crops on a farm, including preparing the land, planting seeds, managing crop health throughout the growing season, and harvesting the mature crops, often using a combination of manual labor and farm machinery, while adhering to agricultural practices and regulations to ensure optimal yield and quality.
Key responsibilities of a general crop farmer may include:
Land preparation:
Plowing, tilling, and leveling fields to create suitable conditions for planting.
Crop selection and planting:
Choosing appropriate crop varieties based on market demand, soil conditions, and climate, and accurately planting seeds using various methods.
Irrigation management:
Monitoring soil moisture levels and operating irrigation systems to provide adequate water to crops.
Weed control:
Implementing weed management strategies, including hand weeding, herbicides, and mechanical cultivation.
Pest and disease management:
Identifying and addressing potential crop pests and diseases through preventative measures and targeted treatments.
Crop monitoring and scouting:
Regularly inspecting fields to identify issues with crop health, such as nutrient deficiencies, stress, or disease symptoms.
Fertilization and soil management:
Applying necessary fertilizers and amendments to maintain soil fertility and health.
Harvesting operations:
Operating farm machinery like harvesters to efficiently harvest mature crops at the optimal time.
Post-harvest handling:
Properly storing and preparing harvested crops for market, including cleaning, sorting, and packaging.
Equipment maintenance:
Performing routine maintenance and repairs on farm machinery and tools.
Recordkeeping:
Maintaining detailed records of crop yields, planting dates, chemical applications, and other important agricultural data.
Qualification:
Required skills and qualifications:
Agricultural knowledge: Thorough understanding of crop cultivation practices, plant biology, soil science, and pest management.
Mechanical skills: Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery safely and effectively.
Physical stamina: Capacity for prolonged physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Decision-making skills: Ability to make informed decisions based on market trends, weather conditions, and crop health.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust to changing weather patterns and market demands.
Basic computer skills: Familiarity with software for recordkeeping and data analysis.
All applicants must pass Agriculture Skills Assessment Test Prometric Exam and must have at least Japan Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N4 or Japan Foundation Test (JFT) A2 Level Certificate. We also accept Japan Ex-Trainee who finished their 3 years contract.
